As Chief of one of the largest law enforcement agencies in Oklahoma, Colonel Van M. Guillotte assumed duties on March 15, 2007. As the chief of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Colonel Guillotte becomes a member of a small, distinquished group who literally served within each rank of the patrol before becoming chief. Colonel Guillotte was born in Louisiana, and several years later his family moved to Texas before eventually locating in Oklahoma in 1978. Colonel Guillotte graduated from Putnam City North High School and then Central State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice. He began his career with the highway patrol in July 1989 serving as a Capitol Patrol Officer assigned to the governor’s mansion. Almost two years later, he was accepted and then graduated from the 46th Oklahoma Highway Patrol Academy. His first assignment as state Trooper took him to Okmulgee County, and in 1998, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and relocated to serve with the OHP headquarters in Lawton. In September 2000, Colonel Guillotte was promoted to First Lieutenant and transferred to Oklahoma City to begin his assignment as legislative liaison representing the highway patrol at the State Capitol. In 2003 he was promoted to captain. Colonel Guillotte attended the 222nd FBI National Academy in 2005 and was promoted to Major in 2006. After his brief appointment as Lieutenant Colonel, Guillotte was then promoted to become the 24th Chief of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
